Pierce Park
Pierce Park is approximately 4.6 acres large and is open until dusk year-round. The park encompasses a large pavilion, swing sets, a play structure, and picnic areas, making it a destination for local families looking to enjoy the fresh air. The park is notable for its large rock, which was moved from the old schoolhouse site and is painted throughout the year for local themes and events! The onsite pavilion can be reserved for a fee. If the pavilion is not reserved, it can be used on a first-come, first-served basis by the public.
Waterloo State Recreation Area
Waterloo Recreation Area is the largest state park in the Lower Peninsula, making it a popular and convenient outdoor recreation site for Chelsea residents and visitors alike. The area features plenty of amenities, such as camping sites, a trail system, a visitor center, and lots of fishing and hunting options. The longest trail in the system is the 33+ mile Waterloo-Pinckney Trail. There’s also a half-mile Waterloo-Dry Marsh trail that’s perfectly suited for families looking for a quick stroll. The Eddy Discovery Center is undergoing renovations through July 2025, at which point it will reopen to the public.

Purple Rose Theatre Company
Chelsea’s Purple Rose Theatre Company was founded in 1991 by acclaimed actor (and Chelsea native!), Jeff Daniels. The company has since established itself as the creative home for theatre artists that define the distinctive and collective Midwestern voice. Patrons of the arts are invited to laugh, cry, and learn something new. As the company has grown and flourished over the years, educational programs have been added, as well as a variety of performance classes, readings, and lectures in partnership with the Chelsea District Library.
Chelsea Historical Museum
The Chelsea Historical Museum is operated by the Chelsea Area Historical Society. The group is dedicated to gathering and preserving area history and educating the public, while also restoring historic buildings and sites for future generations to appreciate. The society hosts various events and gatherings throughout the year, such as Boozy History Tours in June and Holiday Home Tours & Pot-Lucks in December. Museum hours are hosted on Saturdays from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM and on Thursdays during Sounds & Sights in the summer from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Arctic Coliseum
Chelsea’s Arctic Coliseum Ice Arena is the place to be if you’re looking for some ice time. The arena has two NHL regulation-sized rinks, as well as an arcade, workout room, and concession stand. The arena hosts public skate sessions, as well as stick and puck skating.
